Migration, Racism and Religion -
a conference on faith organisations, sanctuary and civil society

University of East London, Docklands Campus, Thursday 4 February 2010

Organised by the Centre for Research on Migration, Refugees & Belonging
(CMRB) and Runnymede Trust

You are invited to intend this important conference which takes a timely look
at the increasingly prominent role played by faith organisations in support
of refugees and other vulnerable migrants, and in contesting racism in
Britain.

The conference will examine the relevance of refuge and sanctuary to current
religious debates, asking whether faith organisations have reinvigorated
principles eroded by the secular state. It will also tackle the importance of
faith initiatives to the broader issues of racism, anti-racism, community
relations, identities and the politics of belonging.

The conference will bring together a wide range of activists, academics and
religious leaders in order to tackle urgent questions about the role played
by faith and non-faith organisations and individuals in defending the
interests of refugees and migrants.

Please see the attached notice for more information; please circulate widely.

The conference is free to attend but places are limited so please book early.
Please contact Dr Helen Taylor for more information and to reserve a place:
